BETTER STAINEDGLASS STORE

This Home needed a stained glass mission style sidelite to help make it look modern and elegant.

This is the before picture. The door and sidelight are seriously outdated.

Here the door is being installed. It came from Home Depot with the glass installed for only about $250, a great buy! Note that the old sidelight is still there. (Want to see what happened to the old side light, click here)

The sidelight really finishes off the space. Now, the home looks modern, and elegant. The windows lets more light into the living space while maintaining privacy. And we couldn't be happier at how well the two pieces matched.

A pre-hung, metal insulated door features a low cost, high quality insulated glass unit. Beveled glass pieces on the interior and tempered glass on the exterior form a good barrier against the weather. The stained glass artists at Gomm Stained Glass built the sidelite to match the pattern in the door. The sidelite was created using in expensive bevels that are very similar in quality to the high priced ones. The difference is that the bevels are made from thinner glass so the angle of the bevel isn't as steep, so the refraction of light through the bevel is less dramatic. The difference in cost is quite dramatic. A 2" X 2" custom made bevel will run 8 to 10 times the cost as an inexpensive imported bevel.

Inexpensive import bevels will usually have a 3/8" to 1/4" bevel instead of the wider bevels that thicker glass have. They typically come in "straight line" shapes and commercial curved bevel clusters that can be mixed about to get many different artful combinations.
