BETTER STAINEDGLASS STORE

A Kitchen gets a new Tuscan look with Stained Glass Inserts

The client emailed us from California and asked for pricing and designs for a Tuscan cabinet door insert for his kitchen. He was pleasantly surprised at our relatively low pricing and was also happy that our local cabinet maker could make new door fronts for him.

Since there were so many doors to build, we set up cutting many pieces at a time. Since some designs were bigger than others and some were a reverse of another, we had to be on our toes to keep each individual panel straight.

As pieces were cut and ground, they were laid out on the pattern piece for that individual panel.

Soon there were glass panels laying all over the shop.

When we got the panels soldered and patina'd we placed them in the door frames they were destined for to await being siliconed into the frames.

The door frames were made by David Eakins at Mountain Mills. His email is eakins@iveracity.com and you can visit his website at mountain mills

We've done several projects with David and always enjoyed the experience.

I applied a thin bead of silicone into the door frame.

Then I carefully set the glass in place.

Next, I added a thin bead of silicone to the top of the glass.

A finger is the perfect tool for smoothing the silicone.

By applying silicone to the top and bottom of each glass panel, they were encased and cushioned in silicone which is quite strong and flexible. The glass will never rattle and there will be no danger of the glass cracking when doors are opened and closed.

We provided an installation diagram so that the client wouldn't get confused as he installed his cabinets. Many were the same size and we wanted the proper design to get placed where it should. It would have very easy to put one in backwards.

Here are three of the panels before they were crated up and shipped off.

And here they are installed in the clients home. They selected grape door pulls and our cabinet guy furnished hardware and mounting instructions so things on that end were a breeze!
