We built an arched transom for a home in the Hobble Creek area. The deep carved glass is very elegant and it really is fun to feel the deep lines blasted into the glass.

I have to admit that sandblasting glass is one of my least favorite endeavors, not because I don't like the results, it's just that there are so many technical difficulties. When we lived in Missouri, there were days when I couldn't sandblast because there was so much humidity in the air that the sand wouldn't flow. That doesn't happen much here in the West.

I started this project in an unusual manner, I painted my work bench. It's just that it was such a mess from recent use, that I had to sand it down and get all the debris off of it before I had a decent surface to work on.

Then I could carve each of the sections of glass. I applied resist, and a pattern and then cut it with a sharp knife.

With the whole panel carved and foiled, I soldered it into a panel. Even though I added reinforcement to the top and bottom of the piece, it was very wobbly.

Then we installed it and it was worth all the work.
